*TOPIC: SERVICE IS THE TRUE ESSENCE OF LEADERSHIP*

Focus: 1 Kings
Text: 1 Kings 9.6,7

 6  And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

 7  And they spake unto him, saying, *If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them,* and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

One of the greatest problems facing Nigeria and most other developing nations is a very clear lack of understanding of the purpose of leadership.

Most of such leaders, political and spiritual, see their leadership positions as a platform for sorting themselves out.

So without any remorse they use their offices to better their own lives at the expense of the people under their leadership.

*APPLICATION*

*1. Leadership is a trust to serve people.*

That leadership position is not about *you*......it's about *the people*

Mat 20:25-28

 25  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

 26  But it shall not be so among you: but *whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister*

 27   *And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:*

 28   *Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.*

*2. Leadership is a platform to make the lives of people better.*

Psalms 23.1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.👊

Like a good shepherd, a leader must be focused on meeting the needs of his people. 👌

You have no business leading people if you are not committed to making their lives better. 🙉

Leadership is not a platform for you to take care of yourself and your family.🙈

*Nigeria will begin to rise to greatness when we have the critical mass of true leaders who are genuinely committed to making the lives of the people better.*❤

I can tell you categorically that most political office holders are not thinking of how to make the lives of the people better! It shows in their policies and programs! 😳

This is the reason why strong and continuous leadership development is one of the greatest needs of the hour. 😊

As a leader, are your people getting better or getting bitter?😭

Are you serving them or you're making them to serve you?😷

*True leadership is about serving the people committed to your trust.*😉
