Church leadership is not by election

Online Bible study

By Tayo Onaleye

Focus: The book of 1Kings

Passage: 1Kings 8.16

*Principle: I chose David to be over my people Israel.* 1Kings 8.16

There's a basic principle of Christian leadership that *differentiates us* from civil, corporate or political leadership.

The principle is this: *God is the one who sets people in offices in the body of Christ.*

Unlike in the world where people campaign, lobby, rig, manipulate and kill to occupy positions, *leadership in the body of Christ is by divine ordination.*

1Sa 12:6 And Samuel said unto the people, *It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron*..........

God chose Moses to lead.

God chose David to lead.

God is still the one who chooses those He wants to lead us today.

Application of this principle:

1. Don't play pranks to get into leadership positions in the church. If God has not placed you in that office you will simply be an impostor.

2. Give appropriate honor and respect to those God has set in positions of leadership in His household.

That person may be younger than you, less educated than you, not as wealthy as you are, not as good-looking as you are, etc But you must remember that it is God who put them in that position and you must give them their due respect.

So let's all remember that Christian leadership is not like political leadership.

It is God who chose David to be over the whole house of Israel.

He's still choosing today.

Remain blessed

LIFE IS ABOUT FOLLOWING

LIFE IS ABOUT FOLLOWING Tayo Onaleye Psalm 63.8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. The Christian life is a journey with the Master. It's about following Him, His agenda and pattern. 1. FOLLOW JESUS Mat 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He's the Bishop of your soul and the Great Shepherd.  He's the No.1 person to follow. We follow Jesus by following the leading of the Holy Spirit in us and the Word of God. The first calling of the disciple is not to preach but to follow. Mark 3.14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 2. FOLLOW YOUR LEADER Don't hang around a leader you refuse to follow. Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. You can't help the the fellow who refuses to follow. Hebrews 13.17 Obey them that have t...
