Topic: *Activating the power of the Holy Spirit*
Text: Luke 4. 14, 15 And Jesus returned *in the power of the Spirit* into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
Jesus has committed the furtherance of His ministry unto us.
Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
And like Him, we cannot carry on His ministry without the Holy Spirit.
Acts 10.38 How *God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power:* who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Luke 4.18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because *he hath anointed* me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, *Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.*
All the exploits in the early ministry of Jesus were by the Holy Spirit.
If Jesus operated by the Holy Spirit, we cannot do likewise.
So we earnestly need the ministry of the Holy Spirit for victorious Christian living and effective soul winning.
Below are specific ways of activating the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives
*1. Faith*
Faith is the foundation of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. We must have absolute confidence and trust in what the Holy Spirit says and act on it.
Hebrews 11. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
*2. Prayer*
Prayer activates the power of the Holy Spirit.
James 5.16.... The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Ephesians 6. 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
*3. Fasting*
Fasting sharpens the sensitivity of your spirit to the things of the Holy Spirit.
Mat 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
2Co 11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, *in fastings often,* in cold and nakedness.
Jesus returned in the power of the Holy Spirit *after fasting*. Luke 4.2,14
Acts 13. 2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
*4. Worship*
Worship creates an *atmosphere* for the move of the Holy Spirit.
2Ki 3:15 But now bring me a minstrel. And it cameto pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
Psa 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
*5. Communion with the Holy Spirit*
2 Corinthians 13. 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy
Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
Communion with the Holy Spirit creates a high way of activating the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
*6. Corporate meetings*
Corporate meetings where believers unite in the spirit activate the power of the Holy Spirit.
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are *gathered together in my name,* there am I in the midst of them.
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
There is tremendous power in unity.
Unity creates an atmosphere for the move of the Holy Spirit.
Psalms 133.1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Verse 3......... *for there the LORD commanded the blessing,* even life for evermore.
That is why we must protect the atmosphere in the church from divisions and dissension.
*Disunity and unresolved conflicts stifle the presence of the Holy Spirit. They pollute the atmosphere and contaminate the climate.*
Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
*7. Prophetic declarations and Word confessions*
1Ti 1:18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the *prophecies* which went before on thee, *that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;*
Declaring God's Word activates the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is constantly watching over God's Word to perform it.
Isa 44:26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers;
When you confess God's word or make a prophetic declaration you give the Holy Spirit material to work with.
*8. Ministering to people*
When you minister to people you activate the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 5. 17 And it came to pass on a certain day, *as he was teaching........ the power of the Lord was present to heal them.*
Mark 16.20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Stepping out in faith to minister to people activates the power the Holy Spirit.
